Lost in the House

In this week's message, Kerry explores the second parable in Luke 15 - the story of the woman who loses one of her ten silver coins. While many grew up "in the house" of the church, going through all the right steps and traditions, it's possible to still be lost without a genuine relationship with Christ.

This sermon examines:

  • The difference between remorse and repentance
  • Our sacred worth as image-bearers of God
  • The Holy Spirit's persistent, gentle work in our lives
  • Moving from religious ritual to authentic faith in Christ

The ten-coin headband in Jewish tradition symbolized completeness and sacred commitment. When one coin was lost, it represented brokenness - but the woman searched diligently until she found it and restored completeness. In the same way, the Holy Spirit pursues us with a lamp (illumination), a broom (cleansing), and careful diligence until we're found and restored.

Kerry shares his own testimony of growing up in the United Methodist Church, going through confirmation, baptism, and all the traditional steps - yet remaining lost until a genuine encounter with Christ in college. You may have grown up in church, been baptized, confirmed, and gone through all the motions - but true salvation requires more than religious activity. It requires repentance and stepping into Christ, allowing Him to be Lord of your life.

Key Scripture: Luke 15:8-10

If you've been lost in the house, today can be the day you're found in the house.
